The first concert Jim Holland ever attended was Led Zepplin at the Nassau Coliseum in the sumer of 1972. He was fourteen years old. In October of that same year, he started drum lessons with Jerry Ricci in Merrick, New York and has never looked back.

Since then, Jim has studied with such drumming greats as Jim Chapin, al Miller, Joe Morello, Rod Morgenstein, Joe Franco, Dom Famularo, Don Mulvaney, Denny McDermott and Frank Marino as well as taken master classes with Steve Smith, Tommy Aldridge, Danny Gottlieb and Peter Erskine.

While living in New York, Jim Holland taught at The Long Island Drum Center for over ten years. During that time he published "The Complete Book of Drum Fills" which has sold over twenty thousand copies to date.

Jim moved to Sonoma, California in 1995 with his wife Patricia and sons Dennis and Brian. He lives in Sonoma currently where he operates The Drum School of Sonoma with students from all over the San Francisco Bay Area, and plays in many groups and every style of music. Besides his most recent publication, "The Best Double Bass Book Ever", Jim is working on a new book that teaches young children how to play the drum set.
